LAPL medical

If you do not currently hold a CAA medical but want to work towards your LAPL, or if you are looking to extend your existing LAPL medical, we can provide the required assessment.

Note that your GP may be able to offer you a LAPL if your have generally good health, though they are not required to do this. In other circumstances, an AME can do this.

You will need to apply to access the CAA portal online, register for the CAA medical service and then apply online for a LAPL medical - a guide for this process is available here. You can then see an AME for your medical. Note that without completing these steps first, an AME can not complete the medical examination or issue you a certificate.

Each LAPL involves the following:

  • Check of photo ID (passport or UK driving licence)
  • Review of the application entered on Cellma and a check of the medical history
  • Review of a mental health checklist
  • Physical examination including height and weight, blood pressure, pulse, heart and chest, nerves in the face and limbs, movement of the arms, legs and spine
  • A vision check including colour blindness check
  • A hearing check
  • A urine test - checking for blood, sugar and protein
